In My Own Little Corner

If you look at the right side of my blog you will see a link to Paper, Paint, Pencils, & Pens which is a blog I am doing with a group of other artists. Please click on the link and come visit us there. This month we are doing sketches that fit the theme "Close to Home." I have posted many of my local landscapes there, but someone did a post of their chair and I ended up following suit.

This is the view I have most of the time when I sit on my living room couch. In addition to seeing the TV which is directly in front of me, I have a view of the loveseat, lamp, end table and window. This sketch was done with a combination of watercolors, inktense pencils and ink.

Then I sketched where I usually sit on the couch...with a pillow behind me for added comfort on my comfy couch. My tea is within reach, and a plastic box containing some of my sketching supplies so I don't have to reach far for anything. (Even the phone is within reach...lazy?...you bet! LOL Is it really this neat...no way! I used artistic license to eliminate much of the clutter that is on the table in front of me and by the telephone. Usually my laptop isn't on the coffee table. It is in my lap and my feet are resting on the coffee table. Now you can picture my setting.

  3. Lovely, warm, intimate sketches Joan. I like the way you have portrayed the texture of the fabrics in these, I think you've pulled that off really well. I have some inktense pencils but have never got on with them, I'm probably doing something wrong because you've got some good effects here. I haven't tackled interiors of our home, if I eliminated the clutter we wouldn't recognise it. I've thought of sketching the kids. When they are plugged into their devices they move less than the furniture. If they moved any less, Helen would end up dusting them!! Do many of you drink tea where you are? I know it's a bit stereotyped, but I thought it was mainly coffee over there?

  4. I so love both of these sketches, Joan. It does indeed look comfy too. Had to laugh at Kev's question about the tea. So many people here drink tea! I do not tend to drink it hot and I do not like cream/milk in my tea but I grew up with tea.

  5. Hilda - Thanks. Glad it made you laugh.

Tina - Thank you. It is fun to do a blog with themes.

Kevin - Thanks so much. LOL I can just imagine your wife dusting the children...but they are great subjects anywhere because they sit transfixed over their phones, tablets, or computers. I drink coffee in the morning, but usually have a cup of tea in the afternoon. It helps when I "think" I'm hungry around 4. I know a lot of people who drink tea and tea shops are the in thing lately.

Sherry - Thanks! I like tea without milk, and chamomile is really my favorite.

  8. Joan, how nice to see some cozy corners of your home. I also like the artistic license you took to "clean up". If only that would work in real life too.

  9. Thanks for inviting us in to see your lovely home Joan. I will imagine you sitting on your comfy couch in future when I read your posts as if we were in the same room having an arty chat and a coffee.
