With the cold temperatures here lasting for so long things have become quite frozen. I went up near Northport on the northern side of Long Island and drove all the way out to one of the beaches...about 7 miles down this peninsula. The harbor there was just huge chunks of ice. When the tide comes in and out it moves the ice and cracks it. In spots it was piled up in chunks. There were some fishermen in this harbor working to crack more of the ice so their boats could get out into the channel. It looked very eerie.
I love the way you've depicted the cracked ice here, it's really effective and the reflected colours in the water are superb. This is another winner, though I don't actually feel like walking into this one!!!! : )
ReplyDeleteKevin - LOL Thanks so much. I got out of my car for only a few minutes to take pictures and then quickly got back in.
ReplyDeleteThis is so clever. Luv it
ReplyDeleteYou've done this so beautifully Joan! You've got such great sensitivity of line. Poor you with such long drawn out freezing temperatures, but it has certainly provided some great painting fodder for you!
ReplyDeleteI think this is one darned gorgeous watercolor, Joan. The addition of the ink just makes it pop. I can imagine the sounds of the cracking ice too...
ReplyDeletePolly - Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWendy - Thank you. I don't mind sitting in the car to paint. It is usually warm enough especially if I park in the sun.
Sherry - It looks and sounds frosty. Thanks so much.
Oooh, I really like this painting. Great job, Joan.
ReplyDeleteThis looks really cool! (No pun intended). :)
