Upstate Barn 2

Each of the upstate barns and farms have their own character. We found a cluster of farm buildings and silos that we hadn't seen before, so I looked for a spot where we could park and have a view from the car while we sketched.

Snowy Farm

I enjoy driving around and seeing farmland that is still being used for farms on Long Island. So much  is gone due to residential developments. The other day I wanted to sketch something with snow so I took a ride out near Wading River about 25 minutes northeast of me. There were a lot of good views...but with no place to park my car due to the banks of snow. Finally I spotted this. I loved that the green was showing a little where some vehicle had driven through or maybe the wind and sun had just worked their magic to let it peek through.

Back in my post for Nov. 18, 2014 I had posted a photo of myself doing my presentation for the Wet Paints Studio Group in Sayville. I spoke about art and my life and brought along examples of my drawings, collage, paintings, and sketchbooks. I promised all of you that when the video of my presentation was available I would post a link to it. Well...it has been on youTube for a while, but I had been posting so much here that I didn't want to overwhelm the pages. Now that things are a little quieter I am posting it. East End Flower Field

On Saturday my friend, Susan and I had to be in East Hampton to pick up paintings, so we planned to do some painting first. The weather was not cooperating...as soon as we got to our first location it started to drizzle. So we sat in the car to paint at a local farm. I liked the flowers in bloom. They told us that if we came back in about 2 weeks the sunflowers should be in bloom. 

White Door

Last week I went out to East Hampton to paint. We went to Mulford Farm which is a historic farm with a few houses and barns. I didn't find the barns too interesting but I loved this door on one of the houses. This is 8 x 10.



Morning Snack

Yesterday I had to drive up to Middletown, NY to drop off paintings. I always like going up there because of the scenery I pass along the way. There are some great farms just off the road. I have painted views of this dairy farm before, but I focused on the dairy cows this time. This was done in my Stillman & Birn journal.

Farm and Corn Field

This is one of my favorite local scenes. It is the Suffolk County Farm from the off-ramp on the Long Island Expressway. I sat there on the shoulder to paint this 5 x 7 painting.
