A Musical Night

Last Tuesday a friend invited me to join her at a local "dive" bar that has a big band playing once a month. The band is Tommy James and the Black Tie Affair Orchestra. We went once before and had fun sketching the musicians. This time they were doing a "rat pack" tribute and had a singer with them. I sketched in pencil and planned to add watercolor when I got home, but I think they will stay like this.

One page is filled with small thumbnails of the musicians and the singer in the top right corner.

The second page was larger sketches. I love how the horns make their cheeks puff out. lol
On the left is the leader of the orchestra, Tommy James.

My final sketch is a second one of the singer,

  3. So fabulous, Joan! Tommy James himself looks very young. If he is, then I so admire his tribute to bygone eras and styles of music.

    Polly, thanks so much.

Sherry, he was young, and there were quite a few young musicians in the group. It is fun music for them to play. Thanks.

  5. Joan - these are awesome sketches. Good choice to not cover them with watercolor. I like the simple feel of them without color. You are so talented. Hope you are having a great start to your week.
