Scavenger Hunt Sketches

I had gone out early to get lobsters for 4th of July dinner (a tradition our family had for my mom's birthday which is the 4th of July). I hadn't had breakfast and I had left Jerry sleeping so on the way back home after picking up the lobsters I stopped at Mc Donald's to pick up Sausage and Egg Mc Muffins. One of the prompts for the current Creative Spark Scavenger Hunt was "yummy" so I thought this fit.

Road Trip to Honor Joe - Chambersburg

We are presently near Atlanta, Georgia for the "Celebration of Life" for my brother, Joe Szalay who passed away recently.  My brother was a wonderful brother, father, grandfather, and friend to many.  We were very close, and I spoke to him often by phone. I hadn't seen him in 5 years due to Covid and other things. I miss him terribly and it has been a terrible loss to all of us in the family. Luckily Jerry and I had seen him and my SIL in Venice before they went on a cruise in October.

Jerry and I started our trip which was about 15 hours long. We planned on stopping overnight in two locations. Our first stop was at Tru by Hilton in Chambersburg, PA. I didn't have much time to sketch but I brought a tiny pad of paper down to breakfast in the morning and was able to get a few sketches done in the breakfast area.

This lady was having a beverage at a table nearby.

First Robotics - Sketch 2

After the band concert that I posted the sketch of the other day, I remained right where I had been sitting in the morning. I had a clearer view now because they had removed the row of seats in front of me, so there was nothing blocking my view. This time I was able to see and sketch one of the robots in the center.

We didn't stay for the entire competition on Friday because my friend, Suzala, had to get home to work with her art students that had lessons scheduled starting around 3:30. It had been a fun day of sketching.

Meanwhile I did some sketching for the Creative Spark Scavenger Hunt that was going on.
Here is a bit of my breakfast.

And a sketch of a vehicle.

Final Sketches of 2023

I've been having fun with the continuous line sketches so I thought I would do one final one for 2023 of my breakfast. I almost always have the same breakfast...a swiss cheese omelette with spinach. My holiday plate makes it a little more festive.

My final plein air sketch for 2023 was done down at Hecksher State Park in East Islip. It is a huge park that is right on the Great South Bay with views across to Fire Island. The parking lot I was in had some huge puddles from recent flooding or high tides. It could be either but this particular parking lot seems to always be partly flooded. The ducks were quite happy, but the human visitors had to drive through some of the water to get out of the lot.
