Quogue Wildlife Refuge

Last Tuesday my PALS plein air group met at the Quogue Wildlife Refuge. The forecast was for drizzle in the early morning but clearing by the time rush hour was over. We meet at 10:00 so that sounded like it would work out, but at 10 it was still misting. The refuge has an indoor nature center with huge, nearly floor to ceiling windows overlooking a former ice pond. They opened the building early for us so that we could stay dry. This was the lovely view.

Indoors we had the view as well as exhibits of animals and insects around the room. I did sketch a turtle in a tank next to me.

Return to Quogue Wildlife Refuge

My plein air group scheduled a return to the Quogue Wildlife Refuge this week. It was a miserable, rainy day. Luckily they have a nice building with big picture windows where we were able to sit and paint.

Quogue Wildlife Preserve

The day that I sketched the goose below, I was working on a watercolor of the view by the lake. The leaves here have finally come into color. It had been a drizzly morning and I did have the option to paint from inside. I liked this view better...and the rain held off the rest of the morning.

Inktober Day 31 - Goose

Happy Halloween!!!

Today is Day 31 for Inktober 2019. This sketch was done with my Elegant Writer pen. I was sitting and painting a larger autumn painting at the Quogue Wildlife Refuge and there was a hay bale nearby where about 5 geese were happily feeding. They were staying put so I pulled out a small piece of paper to capture one of them.
