Direct Watercolor #18 & #19

 I had an appointment to have my car serviced and planned on waiting for it to be done at Nissan. Knowing I would be there for quite a while I brought along my sketchbook. First I did a pencil sketch of this gentleman, but since I knew I would probably have time for a watercolor too I pulled out my tiny watercolor palette and went to work. Considering it was done on sketch paper, not watercolor paper I think it came out good. So here is my painting #18 for the 30 x 30 Direct Watercolor Challenge.

This is my painting #19 which was done on location at the East Islip Marina. There is a restaurant called the Bayside Clam Bar. It was Father's Day so there were quite a few people there...and a bonus was that off to the left a band set up so I had entertainment while I worked.

30 x 30 Direct Watercolor - Day 7

My Day 7 painting for the 30 x 30 Watercolor Challenge was painted by the water in East Islip near the marina. 5 x 7 

East Islip Marina

I know you can't tell from the image, but this painting is 2 inches by about 5 1/2 inches. It was painted down by the East Islip Marina. We were surprised with a beautiful day yesterday with temps about 65 degrees and no wind for a change. I was able to sit outside and sketch and then take a long walk along the marina boardwalk. Today the weather has changed dramatically. We started at about 54 degrees this morning with rain. The temperature has been dropping all day and it is only about 33 degrees right now. We had snow flurries  for a little while but the rain took over. Hope the weather where you are is better.

Inktober Day 19 - East Islip Marina

Today's Inktober sketch was done at the East Islip Marina. This piece of equipment has been sitting in the same place for several years. At one point they were redoing that end of the marina but it has been finished for a long time. I used my twig, Chinese ink, and a stencil brush.

When I finished the sketch I decided to add some watercolors to see what it would look like. Some of the ink ran which surprised me since I thought it was permanent...which it was in most of the sketch.

The color changes the look of it a lot, doesn't it?

#inktober, #inktober2015 - Day 21 & Lakeview Cemetery

Inspiration came to me when I saw this crane down at the East Islip Marina, so it became my Inktober sketch for today. I figured it would be safe and stay put, but lo and behold just as I was finishing, I heard a motor start and the entire platform moved all the way up to the dock I was sitting on. lol

There was an October challenge posted by James Gurney to "paint a graveyard" using only 3 colors plus white. Here is a link to the other paintings for the challenge if you would like to check them out.

This was painted at Lakeview Cemetery in Patchogue using only yellow ochre, ultramarine blue, burnt umber, and a little white.

East Islip Marina

This was also painted on Sunday, which was a grey overcast day. It was done in my journal for the Sketchbook Project across 2 pages.
