Dune Road

I went out to Hampton Bays on Sunday to see an exhibit of my friend's art group. So of course I figured I would go early and paint. I went down to Dune Road which is on a barrier island with dunes and the Shinnecock Canal at one end. I sat right next to one of the bridges and painted the view looking toward the canal. When I finished this I went over to view the the exhibit which was very nice. Stay tuned because I went back after viewing the exhibit.

  1. It looks wintery and a gray day.
The warm grass colors sing next to the soft neutral areas.

  4. Hi Joan, I'm Pete (chinapete), I couldn't find this painting on the WC website and I hope you won't mind if I comment here ... I like how the brushwork in the foreground is alive with energy in the rhythm of the grasses and in the way the leafy greens lean into the picture plane to form the bottom of a crescent of warmth that extends through the arc of the large dune whose tip curves back towards the viewer and hints at an intimate space beyond which there is a cool pale blue wash of water just below the cut of the horizon line and beneath a uniform grey sky ...
