White Jubilee

When I was at the Bayard Cutting Arboretum in Oakdale on Sunday for the WetPaints Studio Group's Member's Show,  I had a few hours between sitting at the gallery and the show reception. I went back to the dahlia garden where I've painted a few times lately. The white dahlia caught my eye this time.
This is 5 x 7.

  1. Gorgeous!! How do you fit all these things in? It takes me half a day to do a little sketch.

  2. This is so lovely, Joan... I so admire your skill in painting white flowers. I know I have to paint the shadows and subtle off-whites to show the white, but that's easy to say and hard to do! You are a master!

  3. Gorgeous painting of a Dahlia and so clever - difficult flower and difficult colour

  4. Stunning! I love the colors, Joan!

  5. How amazingly you handled the white petals! A beautiful painting!

  6. "Along the Water" and "Autumn Walkway" are beautiful symphonies of seasonal colour!!! I love "Tucked Away", It just makes me want to go in and explore, irresistable!! Then there is this flower. A flower is a masterpiece of nature and you have done it complete justice!!! Gorgeous work Joan!!!

  7. Joan - this is a beautiful painting - hope you are going to frame it. You are so good at drawing and painting from life. Very stunning. Hope you have a gorgeous day.

  8. Chris - Thanks. I am fast. Paintings like this take me about 1 1/2 -2 hrs, but the sketches for the other blog are done quickly...not more than 30 min.

Tina - Thank you. This was the first white flower I attempted and while I was doing it I wasn't sure about the shading...but it worked.

    Polly- Thank you.

    Celia - Many thanks.

    Sherry - Thanks so much.

Kevin - Thanks. You are really too kind.

Debbie - I will mat it and maybe frame it. I have a show coming up in Dec and I'm sure I will bring it there. Thanks.
