By the Pier

 I'm always looking for views to sketch. I love how the gulls pose on top of the pilings by the dock. This one cooperated and stayed in one spot for a long time. This was done by Mascot Dock in Patchogue.

At the Dock

I love scenes like this of docks along the water where you can see the boats and pilings. This was painted along Brown's River Road in Sayville.

Maritime Museum Grounds

 On Wednesday evening the Patchogue Sketch Club and some artists from Paint the Great South Bay met on the grounds of the Long Island Maritime Museum. It is a great place to sketch because the marsh views are always a little different. It was a hot night so I sat in the shade of one of the buildings which gave me a different foreground than I have when I usually sketch there. I sketched the boardwalk and pilings and the marsh first leaving the sky empty. I wanted to paint that when the sun was starting to set. There were some muted sunset colors and a bit of orange where the ball of the sun was as I finished this.

Piling Visitors

Yesterday I was down by the water in West Islip. The seated gulls were very content for a long time until someone on the other side of the canal brought out some bread to feed them. I'm sure you can guess what happened. lol
