Usk Sketchmas Days 10 & 13

I wasn't able to do the prompt for Usk's Sketchmas day 10 when it came up. The prompt was for a "sketcher" and I knew I wasn't going to be anywhere with another sketcher until tonight. My sketch group met at the new Starbucks in Patchogue and our theme was kitchen tools. I did a few of those but my main focus was on Marianne who was sketching across the table from me. 

The prompt for day 13 was a "beautiful shoe." This sketch was actually done a few days ago when I was at Macy's in the Lake Grove Mall. I couldn't find a spot to sit close to sketch these so I stood by them in the shoe department, did a pencil sketch, and then sat a distance away from them to add the color. They were great but not something I would ever wear without killing myself. lol

Macy's Sketching

Last week I made one of my seasonal trips to look at winter boots (which I never seem to buy anyway) and found myself in Macy's. I am a bargain hunter so unless something is really discounted I don't buy it. lol I've been looking for dress boots, snow boots, and boots to just keep my feet warm. I did find warm boots but they still weren't reduced enough, so I tried them on in Macy's and checked on-line. I found them on clearance in one of the department stores in the south and ordered them for 1/3 of what they were selling here. Yay!! Of course they haven't arrived yet and we had so many days of freezing cold weather when my toes really would have appreciated their furry lining. Hopefully they will arrive at the beginning of this week because it is going to get very cold again.

Anyway after checking out the boots I found that when they renovated this Macy's they tucked a Starbucks in one of the corners. Who knew? One Starbucks counter looks pretty much the same as another so at first I was going to sketch the shoe display that I could see from my table. But then I noticed the red star (Macy's logo) and the mannequins at the entrance to the store...perfect! I sat and sipped and sketched.

Dessert & the Parade

Last night I made a pecan pie for Thanksgiving and just had to sketch it. Pecan pie is one of my favorites and I'm glad we went to my sister-in-law's house so there are no leftovers here. lol

This morning I watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. For this group I used my Tombow marker to sketch what I was seeing on the TV.

This is one of the spots that the camera kept returning to during the parade. Most of the entertainment was performed in front of this location.
