Ferry Sketches

Coming back from Maine we were able to take the Cross Sound Ferry back from New London, Connecticut to Orient Point, Long Island. It doesn't really make the trip any shorter (unless it is rush hour and then it is a definite win), but for a span of time you're out of the car. I sketched the view in front of us as we waited for the crew to start loading the cars on the ferry.

Once we boarded my husband suggested sitting in the bar area where there are small tables, so I had some place for my materials while I was sketching...and lots of victims...I mean models to sketch.

  1. Very nice sketches, Joan. taking the ferry is very enjoyable even though the time is about the same as driving... It's been awhile since I took the ferry....maybe this summer.

  2. Thanks, Hilda. Because we are so much closer to the ferry it makes a lot of sense for us to take it instead of sitting in traffic at the bridge.

  3. nice shots Joan. I tried again to sketch someone at lunch without much success - people just won't stay still long enough for me to sketch them - lol.

    1. Val, they don't stay still but often return to the same poses over and over...I just hate it when they get up and leave.

  4. Great sketches. When I’m on a ferry I have to keep moving so can’t sketch! I walk the decks…..
