West Sayville Boat Basin

I am a bit behind posting this sketch done last Wednesday night at the West Sayville Boat Basin. That is where the Patchogue Sketch Club met. This is 5 x 8.



Helen's Field

I love finding fields filled with color. This was done en plein air last week at Helen's Flower  Farm in Riverhead. I asked if I could paint the field and she told me to paint it now, cause it was going to be plowed under after the weekend. This is about 4 x 12.

Flowerstand

I did this last week at a flowerstand/farmstand up on the north fork of Long Island. Soon the flowers will be replaces with the local veggies. This is 5 x 7.



Floral Challenge from Wet Canvas

This month on Wet Canvas there was a challenge to put birds of paradise into an "art neuveau" setting. This was something new for me to try, and the host, Katherine was very convincing. This is my contribution and it is 5 x 7. I'm happy with the way it came out.

Flowers in the Container

This was another painting I did in Susan's garden. This is 5 x 7.



Susan's Garden

My friend, Susan, has an amazing garden and invited me to come and paint there. The poppies and the irises were in bloom.



At the Herb Farm

The Peconic Herb Farm is such a great place to paint. You can do something small like this one that I did in my journal.

Or something larger like this greenhouse which is 5 x 7.



Return to Flo's

On Wednesday, the Patchogue Sketch Club met at Flo's Famous Luncheonette in Blue Point to sketch. It is such a colorful place.



Arboretum Garden

This was done at the Bayard Cutting Arboretum in Oakdale on Tuesday. The rain held off just until our group was finished.



Sunlit Barn

On Sunday I painted at Ward Melville Park in Setauket. I liked the sunlight playing on the side of the barn. This is 5 x 7.



Paint Out at the Fire Island Lighthouse

On Saturday one of the art groups I belong to, the Wet Paints Studio Group, had a paint out at the Fire Island Lighthouse. The staff was so gracious to us, providing soda and water, and coming out to check on us in our various painting spots on the property. There were 30 artists from Wet Paints who had signed up for the day. I didn't get to see everyone painting, but did get to see some of my frineds as they worked. All the artwork created will be on display in the lightkeeper's cottage for two weeks. If you have a chance, stop in to see it. My thanks to Carol Corbett for organizing the event. Greentique, Port Jeff

This was done in Port Jefferson the other day. There are some cute stores there, but getting a view of them isn't so easy. This is 5 x 7.



Portrait of June

I painted with the South Bay Portrait Group on Tuesday. June was nice enough to pose for us. Everyone looks so serious when they pose. lol

Garden Gate

This was also done on Sunday at the Planting Fields Arboretum. I just turned around and painted the view behind me. It is such a pretty place. This is 6 x 6.

I did a quick painting of a flower too.

Garden Walls

Yesterday's weather looked like there was some potential for clearing so I drove to the Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay. Everything was in bloom. This is 5 x 7.



Southold Flowers

I drove around yesterday in the misty weather looking for some place I could sit in my car and sketch. Southold didn't disappoint me.

The weather has not been condusive lately to painting outdoors. Luckily I am doing some sketching, even if it is tiny subjects.

I am participating in the Every Day in May challenge on Flickr. At the beginning of the month we received a list of 31 items to sketch, one for each day. I did the sketch of Short Beach as my first item which was a landscape. Here are the next two entries.

I love the colorful looks of carnivals...I can pass on the food and the rides, but they are fun to sketch. This one was nearby in Sayville last weekend.
