Jeannette

I did get out to one of the portrait groups last week. Jeannette, who is one of the members of the group, posed for us. She jokingly requested that if we were painting her in color to please include her streaks of turquoise and gold hair. You can see them on the left side near her neck. She was a great model.

Yesterday I went to the Phoenix Gallery in Bellport for the reception of the BAHC show "Destinations and Journeys." My stained paper collage "Abbey With Lavender" won 2nd place.

Sketching at the Art Market

Today I participated in an Art Market at the Phoenix Gallery in Bellport. We had some people come in but there were a few quite times, so I pulled out my sketchbook and sketched the people around me.

Here is Jen who had the table across from me. She was selling Christmas items. You'll notice she was sketching too.

I quickly caught Gina behind some of her framed art.

Mike was sitting on the side talking to us. His other leg was behind the table so I couldn't see to draw it.

Paint the Great South Bay - Part 2

After a good breakfast I headed over to the Phoenix Gallery in Bellport to see what some of the other artists were up to. That was sort of our "home base" where we had snacks, water, and most important of all a restroom.

Next I headed back down to the Bellport dock and painted what I was told later is "rowboat beach." There are always colorful rowboats and kayaks pulled up on the beach there. I sat in the shade and I did the view of the boats with some of the larger boats in the marina and the yacht club on shore.

Here is my painting against the view.

Here is the painting itself.

By this time I figured I had done enough water scenes for the day and headed back into town.
Bellport is a small town with some cute stores and businesses. This is a local restaurant called "The Bellport." However on the outside all is says is "Restaurant."

Here is my painting of it.

I had other plans so I couldn't paint on Saturday. Can you guess which two paintings I submitted on Sunday for the show? I put in the sunrise and the boats on the beach. The show will be on exhibit until Sept 20th and we are having a reception on Sept. 7th from 1 - 4. It will be fun to see the paintings that were entered...too bad there wasn't room for them all.

Bellport Arts

My friend LuAnn Thompson owns Bellport Arts in Bellport. The shop does framing and matting and sells some artwork and assorted merchandise. She also does art exhibitions from time to time.
The shop is right next door to the Phoenix Gallery where I sat in September while our SBAA members show was going on. I had painted the view out the window of the streetlight with flowers and the store across the street. When LuAnn saw the painting she said nobody ever sketches her shop, so I knew I had to give it a try. I went there last week right before Halloween and all the trees in the town were decorated with unusual scarecrows. I sat in my car to get enough distance to see the shop and the scarecrow in front of it. I had this finished but didn't want to post this until I showed it to LuAnn which I did today. She just loved it!!! She noticed all the details I had put in...the two signs over the door, and the painting in the window. It was a big hit!

Bellport View

Last Friday I had to sit at the Phoenix Gallery in Bellport where the South Bay Art Association was having their member's show. I knew that since it was a weekday the odds were that it would be very slow, so I brought along my art supplies. I sat at the front window of the gallery and painted the view of the streetlight decorated with baskets of flowers and the view behind it.
This is about 5 x 7.
