It was a cold day so I knew I needed to use my mobile studio. I was hoping for waves at the beach, but even with the wind there was no great surf. So I left the beach and headed over to the Mastic Marina where I saw this long row of gulls sitting. I approached very carefully with my car to make sure I didn't scare them off. I got three of them sketched before something commanded their attention and they took off.
Really nice details where the weathered board planks and dirt meet. I suppose you did this earlier before the snow squall barreled through late in the afternoon. That squall was quite a spectacle.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mel. Yes, I was out before the snow squall. I missed seeing it but came out later and my car was covered in snow.
DeleteLove this painting Joan! Perfect shadows!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Hilda.
DeleteWhat a cheerful sketch...we don't see gulls often in my neck of the woods. So good to see them here. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteGlad you like it, Debbie. They don't stay put very often.
DeleteVery nice on the distance. I’m sure you really had to simplify. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteI left a lot out...a few buildings and cars. Thanks.
DeleteThis is such a fun sketch - it made me smile. Lovely work Joan!
ReplyDeleteVal, thank you. I'm glad it made you smile.
