These two paintings were done on Lido which is a barrier island between the Venetian canals and the Ariatic Sea. It is different there, more beachy and newer buildings. It has its own atmosphere.
This one was sketched riding the vaporetto from the bustle of San Marco to the beach at Lido. Usually it is very crowded...standing room only. One day I was lucky enough to get a seat and have some room to sketch. Ciao!

  1. I just love seeing Italy through your eyes, Joan. I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite of your works; they are all so exquisite. Love the human element in the last...

  3. These are fantastic. I love the architecture and the bottom one with the folks riding the vaporetto is wonderful.

Now, what is your secret? How can I go on a sketching trip to Venice? Weren't you there last year too? Can I go with you next time? :)

I Have been travelling in Africa for the last 3 weeks and missed your blog! What lovely sketches! I wish I had made the time to keep a diary with so much detail! Mine are very few in comparison!
