30x30 Direct Watercolor #29 Eyelash Salon

Who knew there was an eyelash salon in Sayville. I never noticed it before...maybe because of the hydrangeas and the white fence that catch my eye. Direct watercolor #29.

Bellport Cottage

This was painted in Bellport. I guess this is considered a "cottage" with the big screened porch in the front. It has probably been there for a long time since it is in the historic part of Bellport. I loved the big, white hydrangea bushes in front.

Winter Hydrangeas

Like I said the other day, I like hydrangeas at any season. There is a spot in Sayville where I like to park along the side fence of the property. There are different flowers growing there and the dark fence sets them off nicely. This time there was even a little bit of snow from our last storm.

Behind the Artist's Colony

I like the look of dried hydrangeas. Although they are not colorful like they are in the summer, they have a golden autumn glow to them.  I found these in the back of the buildings that are part of the Idle Hour Artist's Colony in Oakdale.

Flowers and Grasses in the Snow

I like riding around and finding small scenes with snow and shadows. These hydrangeas in Sayville were dried to a very light brown as were the stems, and the sunlight on them attracted me. This is small...only about 3 inches by 3 1/2 inches.

These weeds attracted me the same way. I loved how they stood out from the snow around them. This is also small...about 2 1/2 inches by 6 inches.

Blue House

I had a little time to get out yesterday so I headed to Sayville to paint. I can always find some house that calls to me like this little blue one with the hydrangeas and flowers in front of it. This was done directly in watercolors and fits for the challenge...which is almost over.

Sayville View

We had another hot day today so I headed out early before it was too bad. My plein air was supposed to meet at a lavender field out east and it is one of my favorite places to paint. However the thought of being out there in the field with no shade convinced me to stay local. I headed into Sayville and found a view to sketch. The purple and blue hydrangeas were calling me. I still needed to have the AC on in the car to sketch. The rest of my day was spent at the pool.

Bellport House

One rainy day last week I was in Bellport to order some frames. I hadn't yet done anything for World Watercolor Month so I drove around in the rain to find a spot to paint. Hydrangeas keep calling me.

Happy 4th of July

Happy 4th of July!!!

This painting was done at the Peconic River Herb Farm on Tuesday. Every time I go there I have a hard time choosing between the different displays and arrangements of plants, flowers, and objects. It is funny what attracted me were the hydrangeas and the metal flags in the crate. I was able to get both them in the same painting! This is 8 x 10.

Did you notice I changed the color of the blog?

Hydrangeas by the Shed

On Sunday I headed over to the Bayard Cutting Arboretum in Oakdale to see a friend's artshow at a gallery there and then paint. These hydrangeas were calling to me. They always remind me of my grandmother who had them growing in our yard when I grew up. This is 5 x 7.
