The north fork of Long Island is home to quite a few big nurseries. It is the perfect place to do some plant shopping. The plants by the greenhouses at Lewin Farms in Calverton always look good.

Fantastic Gardens
On another of our drizzly days I was looking for a place where I could park and see something that felt like spring. According to the sign that was hanging over the flowers, Fantastic Gardens in Patchogue has a Sunday market inside and outside some of the greenhouses. I will have to check it out, but for now I was happy with the assortment of flowers on the tables.

Garden Shop at the Peconic Herb Farm & Direct Watercolor #6
This is a view at the Peconic Herb Farm that I've been wanting to paint for a while, but always convinced myself it was too detailed. I had already finished my painting for the 30 x 30 Challenge and decided to do this. Just doing it in watercolor wasn't an option due to all the text. I drew this directly in ink...no pencil lines. I'm happy with the way it came out.
For my 30 x 30 Direct Watercolor #6 I painted at Helen's Greenhouses in Aquebogue. I liked the arrangements of flowers in front of the greenhouses as well as the tubs of what looked like kale and leafy green veggies in front.

Inktober Day 16
My Inktober Day 16 sketch was done at Fantastic Gardens in Patchogue. I love seeing all the tables filled with plants outside the greenhouses. This was done with a dip pen and sepia ink.

Inktober Day 12
I was out east for plein air painting on Tuesday and on the way home I stopped to do my Inktober Day 12 of this view looking toward some greenhouses in Calverton.

At the Herb Farm
The Peconic Herb Farm is such a great place to paint. You can do something small like this one that I did in my journal.
Or something larger like this greenhouse which is 5 x 7.
