Islip Beach & Frozen Bay

I have a hard time resisting heading down to the beach. I ventured over to Islip Town Beach. There were a few other people around and I think they had been feeding the birds and that's the reason they were hanging around. There were lots of snow piles and part of the Great South Bay is still frozen there.

The docks still have ice around parts of them at the bay marinas and parks. I like the look of the water and the frozen areas.

Dock in Blue Point

I did another sketch in the small book for the sketchbook project. This is a small dock area in Blue Point. Luckily there are a few spots where you can see in through the reeds.

Maritime Museum Dock

I hadn't been to the Maritime Museum in West Sayville for a while and when I got there I found that a big part of the dock was being replaced. I guess that anything by the water is affected by the salt, the water, the high tides and the winds. This was the only section that it seemed like they weren't working on. It will be interesting to see how the dock area looks when they are finished.

At the Marina

I love this marina because it is like a throwback to earlier days. Most marinas are very modern and fancy. This one has the rustic character down pat...plus it is so colorful.
Luckily they survived the hurricane we had because the building is still standing...however the dock is mostly gone. This is about 4 x 6 in my Stillman & Birn journal.

I did this one of one of the boats which looks like it was slightly damaged by the storm...or else a large shark took a bit out of it.
