Assorted Sketches

 On Wednesday I had to have my car serviced at Nissan...inspection, oil change, and a recall. I was there for a while so I got to do a few sketches of people in the waiting room.

Since I had Art Rage on my phone I did a sketch of a woman waiting for her car. I don't know how people do sketches so easily on the phone. My fingers block my view of what I'm doing.

Back a while ago I did a sketch of a small sailboat at the Sayville Marina.

I'm still doing sketching for the Scavenger Hunts although they have moved from Wet Paints (which is shutting down in the next few months) to crebativespark.art. It is a very welcoming, smaller art group. One of the items in the scavenger hunt was a cup/mug and something held in your hand. This was done with a sketch & wash pencil.

Gowanus 2 & Inktober 2018 Day 2

As I said yesterday the area near the Gowanus Canal is pretty gritty and industrial. There are some buildings that have been abandoned and graffitied. Some of the structures are weathered and worn and have seen better days like this waterpower that doesn't seem like it will be standing much longer.

Yesterday afternoon I met a friend for lunch and parked in a lot by the Bronxville train station. When I got back to my car there was a ticket on the windshield for an expired inspection sticker. I didn't realize that it was due..it was only October 1st. I swear in the past Nissan sent me a reminder, but if they did I must have overlooked it. So this morning I was at Nissan to have the inspection done so I wouldn't get a second ticket. Since I was at Nissan for an oil change a little over a week ago sketching the inside of the waiting room seemed old, so I sketched the view into the showroom this time for my Inktober Day 2 sketch. #inktober #inktober2018

#OneWeek100People2017 - Day 2

This morning I had an early appointment at Nissan to have my oil changed and tires rotated. In the past the service center has been a great place to sketch people because everyone checked in at the counter when they got there. However, they changed the process so everyone is seen in an individual cubicle. Then only the people who are waiting for their cars come in and sit down. That limits the number of models.

These two men above were on the other side of the room so I did them first using my Elegant Writer pen so I could add a bit of shading. The pen wasn't writing so well so I abandoned it after a while. 

These two were in a cubicle and I could see a bit of them through the window.

After my car was finished I went over to McDonald's for breakfast and started sketching the cast of characters there. I switched to my platinum preppy pen.

I was almost ready to give up because everyone left...but in came a new group.

I will probably end up there again this week. Next time I'll just have coffee, not their egg white sandwich (which is pretty good by the way).

Can't Beet This

Last summer I took some photos at a farm stand in Maine when I was visiting my sister. I really liked these beets and am glad I finally had the opportunity to do some indoor studio work. This is 8 x 10.

Last week I needed to have my car inspected and have some work done on it. Most people hate sitting around the waiting room at the dealership, but of course I bring along my art supplies and sketch the other people waiting. So I am very content. Some of the people are very good models and sit still for a while, others keep getting up and walking around. lol These were done in about 3 hours, some in pencil, some in ink. I did a collage of them using pic monkey.com. I needed practice with making a collage on that site before I forgot how to do it. The 2nd sketch down on the right was where all the activity was in the waiting room. Apparently they got a new coffee machine and it was giving them problems. I think everyone who worked at that Nissan dealership spent some time with the front of the machine open tweaking the workings. I did get a cup of coffee before all of this started, and by the time I left they had a sign saying "Out of Order" on the machine. lol
