House in Sayville

There is a street in Sayville where several of the houses must have been built by the same developer/construction company because they all have similar roof features with the little piece in front. I like the style, but as you can tell I'm not an architect and don't have the wording for those features. lol I will probably go back and do another one of these houses.

Cull House Side View

There are quite a few restaurants in Sayville but not too many of them are near or overlooking the water. The Cull House on River and Terry Streets does have a partial view. I like the side view of the restaurant since there is usually a car or two to sketch. This was done the day before our snowstorm.

*Update: The grounds crew here came and shoveled out my front entrance early this morning and then plowed the wide driveway outside the garage door. Yay!! I can get out for my Covid test tomorrow that I need before my cataract surgery on Tuesday.

Blizzard of 2022

Since everyone knows the snowstorm was headed for the east coast I thought I would jump ahead with this post. The snow started right before I went to bed last night and right now (4pm) it seems to be finally winding down. Due to the snowfall and winds it was declared a blizzard. It is so hard to tell how much snow there actually was since the wind caused such drifts. I figure there is at least a foot and a half of snow. I had a lot of art activities to keep me busy indoors today including this sketch out my living room window that I just finished a little while ago.

Here are some photos I took at about 8 am this morning. It snowed continuously since then.

Sayville Porch

You may wonder why I sketch in Sayville so often. The answer is easy...it is a friendly, welcoming town. When I drive through looking for a house to sketch there are so many homes that have front porches with seating areas where you can look out and see people passing by...and there are always people passing by.

Here is another one just like I described.

Lefty Lucy

Lefty Lucy's posing schedule changed a bit. The plan was for her to pose on the first and third Tuesday of the month, but since she missed the third Tuesday she posed this week instead. After seeing the sketches I've done of her for nearly 2 full years, my friend, Ai from Thailand joined us this week. She was sketching at 7am her time before she went to work at her university where she teaches computer sciences. lol I don't know ir I would have the energy or the time to sketch before going to work, but it seems to have worked for Ai.

Here are my sketches from this week.

Islip Church

I saw the steeple of this church when I was passing through Islip so I drove around until I found a good view and that all-important parking space. Right now I can't remember the name of it but I looked as I was passing to go home. Then I checked the internet but no building like this popped up when I searched for the name. I'll have to do some investigating the next time I'm in that area.

Denali National Park

On Saturday I joined the virtual sketchers from the NYC Urban Sketchers. Our hosts and guides brought us to Denali National Park in Alaska. Once again we were provided a website that was full of information and photo references for anything there that you can imagine sketching. I've never visited Alaska but this definitely made me want to go. I started with a photo reference of a landscape with these gorgeous flowers called fireweed in the foreground.

It is hard to think of Alaska without picturing the animals that live there, especially the bears.
I loved this reference. I tried not to overwork it.
