In Patchogue there are quite a few restaurants/clubs along the canals that eventually lead out to the bay. Of course they opt for a tropical feel with palm trees outside. I'm sure this is a fun place to have a bite to eat or a cocktail and watch the water when the season starts...but they're not quite ready.

Brookfield Place - Part 2
After I finished the double spread that I posted yesterday I went downstairs at Brookfield Place and sat with a number of the sketchers from our group. It was lunch time so we took turns going upstairs and getting something to eat. It is always fun to peek at what others have been sketching and the views that they chose. My friend, Janette came in from outside. I think she may have been one of the few sketchers who sat outside to paint...and she did it both in the morning and the afternoon. It was good to see her. I hadn't seen her since back in the spring because she was taking art classes on the weekend and couldn't make our sketch events. She had bought a painting of mine and I was finally able to bring it to her.
After lunch I face the interior of Brookfield Place. It has wonderful high windows like an atrium and tall palm trees. It is really a great view. This was done in direct watercolor.

Bar Area
I went to Robert Moses Beach recently and was talking to a friend on the phone when I arrived. I ended up keeping her on speaker phone and sketching a scene before I went down on the sand. This year several of the state beaches have opened a bar area near their concession stands. This one has palm trees and a yellow canopy over the bar area. A lady came and sat on one of the stone benches and I included her in the sketch.

Palms Past their Prime
Several of the restaurant/bars along the river in Patchogue use tropical palms to give their outside seating a tropical feel. The problem is when it gets cold there is no room inside the buildings to keep the trees trough the winter...and many of them look like this. These were in the parking lot by Harbor Crab. I hope they find a way to dispose of them before the new ones are brought in. This was done with Noodler's Brown Ink which is water-soluble. I think it looks more sepia than brown, and I like the color.
