At Robert Moses State Park right near the concession area there is a building and what is like a lifeguard garden around it. There is a funny sign that sort of looks like a shark bit it and lots of driftwood pieces standing up like statues. Over the dune is a volleyball net. There are usually a few lifeguards hanging out in the building, but now that it is off season I don't know if there are any around. I know the park stays open year round, and has a lot of visitors because the Fire Island Lighthouse pathway is at the eastern end of the parking lot. There is some staff there year round. I love visiting there at all times of the year.

Lifeguard
This summer we have had some really nice lifeguards at our pool. I did a sketch of Kayla while she was on duty. The day after I sketched this was her last day before going off to college. I emailed her a copy of this sketch.

Beach Sketches
One day this week I headed over to Robert Moses State Park thinking it was going to be a nice beach day...wrong!!! It was super windy! I was standing at the boardwalk railing to sketch & paint the lighthouse and the wind blew my water container over onto the painting. Luckily it didn't ruin it.
I wanted to sit and read for a while so I went over by the building used by the lifeguards thinking it would block the wind. In front of it they had a special "lifeguard garden" with lots of driftwood pieces. I thought it was an interesting look.

Lifeguard Stand
We did walk down and sit on the beach several times...even going out in the waves one day. I couldn't resist sketching the lifeguard stand. It is so different from what we have here in NY...looks so "Baywatch." lol
Here are my brother, sister-in-law, and my two sisters at the beach. No the town doesn't slope like that...it is my picture taking.
Here we are on the beach. Left to right: Me, Tina, Mickey, and Joe. This is the first time in a very long time that the 4 of us have been together...since our sister Fran's memorial service in 2003. It was really special to be together again.

Lifeguards
Being an avid beach person I know how important these people are. They will sit up there even on cold, windy days when nobody is in the water. I had to sketch these two ladies at Sayville Beach.
